From the first moment I watched a print develop in the darkroom, years ago in San Diego, I was struck by the magical process of photography. That same captivation by this medium that turns reality to illusion, has endured throughout my life's journey.
As a witness to our world, I'm inspired to photograph certain moments and places. Through that preservation, you the viewer, the subject and I become connected. It is my passion to capture that fleeting moment before it vanishes, unseen and forgotten...never to come again.
In addition to color and black & white film, much of my interpretation comes from the use of black & white infrared film, Polaroid transfers, and the hand-tinting of black & white prints with transparent photo oil paints. These processes allow me to amplify and enhance the mystique and intrigue of these frozen moments.
Born in New York, I was raised in New Jersey, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from New Jersey City University. After moving to San Diego, I took my first photography class, and was led down an unanticipated path, and career as a professional photographer. Today I live and work in Mendocino, California.
